I planted my flowers a few weeks ago. I planted some in pots and some in my garden beds. I planted three types of plants: Pansies, Viola and Sweetpea. Last night it hailed and I am worried about my plants. The hail may have squashed the flowers. I am lucky to have 3 plants that have flowered. However, the only plants that have flowered are pansies. The pansies that have flowered in the garden bed grew faster and better but are more vulnerable to being eaten by the insects. One of the first pansies that I grew has almost been entirely eaten. I assume the only reason the garden bed pansies are being eaten is that the insects have easier access to them rather than the pot plants. As all the creepy crawlies live in the soil where my plants are.

My flowers have flowered and they looked great. However, one of the first flowers that bloomed has been eaten to the stem basically. I would look around whenever I watered my plants to look for the culprits but I never found anything. So I decided to go check at 6 o’clock when it was dark and I saw 2 slugs in my pot and a few snails along the garden bed. So firstly I got my garden fork and picked up the slugs and snails. I threw them onto the road and hopefully they will not come back. I poured salt around the flowers but not on them so the snails will hopefully not be able to get close to the flowers. So I have been looking out for snails when I water and putting salt around the flowers every 3rd day.

Today is a sad day, we have lost a beloved flower that was part of the family. It was one of the earliest flowers to bloom but the first one to die. It was a Pansy but the ones in the pots. I feel like I may have drowned the plant as I watered them everyday even when it rained. I have been informed about this little trick to regenerate the plant. I should cut the plant down to the bottom 3cm and let it regenerate again.
